Bruno Mars isn't a household name. He hasn't been around for long. He's not in the tabloids or dating starlets.
Instead, Bruno Mars is an honest musician. A talented singer-songwriter of well composed pop songs and a true star in the making.
An eager and oh-so-young Auckland crowd got a first hand taste of his skills last night, and if the screams and squeals were anything to go by, they were more than impressed.
The 25-year-old Hawaiian pop star is truly a breath of fresh air in a world where record sales are dominated by auto-tuned, manufactured one-hit wonders churned out by the Disney channel.
Yes, Mars has only released one album. And yes, this was somewhat apparent by the number of covers thrown into the mix - think Nirvana mixed with Michael Jackson and a dash of the White Stripes - but the boy has style and skill that will almost definitely see him through.
He has written songs for everyone from Travis McCoy to Cee-Lo Green (ask your kids) and it seems he can play almost any instrument he picks up.
He and his tight, energetic and rather charming band started out playing pubs and bars but it appears they've had no trouble making the switch to arenas and stadium with witty banter and even some synchronised dance moves offered up.
But Mars' true talent is his voice. From reggae to pop to barber shop, he has a tone that shines and a falsetto that makes girls weak at the knees.
And among the shrieking declarations of love, the "oh-my-gosh-he's-sooooo-cute" and faux-manly whoops covering for giddy hand claps from the boys, the crowd lapped up everything Mars had to offer.
It was a night of fun, flair, fascination and if his promises are to be believed, we'll be seeing Mr Bruno Mars again before too long. Cue the screaming girls one more time.
