It has been 14 months since the Tony Award winning FELA! run on Broadway and London’s Royal National Theatre. It successfully gained positive attention from different parts of the world and bagged three Tony Awards plus a couple of nominations.
It’s no longer news that the cast and crew of FELA! are already here in Nigeria and that they are prepared to load all fans of the late great Afrobeat legend with a spectacular performance reminiscent of their Broadway show.
In an effort to create a build up to the main event, on Thursday, April 14, 2010, a mini concert was held by the cast of FELA! at the New Afrika Shrine as a tribute to the fans and frequent visitors of the shrine.
In what was described as a brilliant performance, staunch Fela fans were pleased with the concert as they constantly cheered the performers. Femi Kuti, eldest son of the Afrobeat legend was not left out of those who were pleased with the show as he even joined the crew on stage with his saxophone!
‘Now that you have been to the Shrine, I’m sure my father has blessed you’, Femi Kuti said.
‘It means more to us than you can possibly imagine being here and sharing this moment with you,’ Sahr Ngaujah who plays the role of Fela expressed.
The main show will take place on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos
