On Saturday, April 9, 2011, the city of Accra was lit up as the 12th edition of the glamourous MTNGhana Music Awards went down in grand style. The 2011 edition was nothing short of what was expected. Energetic performances, stunning dresses and yellow carpet stuns were a few highlights of the night – with star guests including Dele Momodu, 2face Idibia, Ice Prince, Reggie Rockstone, Keke and D-One, VIP, CK MANN, Cecilia Marfo and many others.
The star-studded concert-type event, organized by Charter House, was held at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre.
The night’s winners included: R2Bees (for Kiss Your hand, ft Wande Coal), Cecilia Marfo, Iwan, VIP, Sammy B, Samini and Nana Boro. Nigeria’s 2face Idibia, who closed the show, lost the Best African Act prize to K’Naan (who was absent).
The three MTN Project Fame West Africa winners Iyanya – 2008 winner, Mike Anyasodo – 2009 winner and the recent 2010 winner Chidinma Ekile were also present at the awards ceremony as earlier reported here by Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET). The young stars also found their way to 107.9 Y Fm, one of Ghana’s top radio stations before heading for the awards night.
‘They had a worthwhile experience, it was like an adventure for them. It’s another added exposure for them especially for Chidinma, they certainly had fun throughout‘, a spokesperson commented.
