Chris Brown 'sorry' for tantrum

Chris Brown has apologised for his outburst at a television studio, claiming he felt he was "exploited" during an interview.

The singer reportedly smashed a window backstage on American television show Good Morning America, after becoming annoyed when he was asked about his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Chris was sentenced to five years' probation and six months' community labour and told to stay away from Rihanna after he assaulted her during an argument in 2009.

He was promoting his latest album Fame on the show when he was repeatedly asked about his troubled personal life.

Chris has admitted his behaviour was unacceptable and he should have controlled his temper during the questioning. However, he claims journalist Robin Roberts provoked him by quizzing him on his turbulent relationship with Rihanna which hadn't been agreed as a "talking point".

"First of all, I want to apologise to anybody who was startled in the office, or anybody who was offended or really looked, and was disappointed at my actions.

"I'm disappointed in the way I acted - I got very emotional," he said yesterday during an interview with BET show 106 & Park.

"I felt like, 'OK, they told us this just so they can get us on the show so they can exploit me.'"

Network ABC have denied they had agreed to discuss certain topics during the interview with Chris.

Chris says he did his best to remain calm during the interview and only lost his temper when he went backstage. The singer was allegedly so irate after the interview he threw a chair, smashed a window, was heard shouting in his dressing room and left without his shirt.

"I kept my composure and did my performances, and when I got back, I just let off, like, steam in the back," he explained.

Good Morning America has invited Chris Brown back to the show.

"I wish him the absolute best," Robin Roberts said on GMA. "We extended the invitation to him (to come back), and sure hope he takes us up on it because I'd sure love to have another chat with him."

Roberts conducted the interview with Brown but he stormed off the set after performing a single from his new album, Fame. She was also one of the first to interview him after he was arrested in 2009 for his altercation with Rihanna.
